Over 420 high school students from all secondary schools in Kozloduy and their teachers visited the Information Centre for Decommissioning of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW).
The enterprise’s visitor campaign lasted over two months and was organized with the aim of giving the young people a better insight into the responsibility of the safe management of radioactive waste, as well as the main activities and SERAW current projects. The interest of the students turned a large part of the meetings into open discussions, with the visitors more often being interested in more details about the long-term storage and disposal of RAW in the National Disposal Facility currently under construction and the operational specifics of the Plasma Melting Facility.
This strong interest, expressed in the survey part of the visitor programme by more than 120 participants, imposed the idea of creating a high school knowledge club “Radiana”, in which experts from the enterprise could respond more thoroughly to the desire for knowledge of the students in the various radioactive waste management areas.
