On 27th and 28th July 2014, the summer session of the Assembly of Contributors of the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) took place in London.
The forum was attended by representatives of the contributing countries, the European Commission, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development – as administrator of the Fund, and the grant recipients. Bulgarian delegation was headed by Ivan Ayolov – Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy and included representatives of the Ministry of Economy, SE RAW and Kozloduy NPP.
During the assembly, the progress on the nuclear and non-nuclear projects supported by the KDSF was reported. SE RAW presented a report on the progress of the projects supporting the implementation of the Decommissioning Programme and the National Disposal Facility for low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (NDF) as well as the development of the dismantling and licensing processes. The second important aspect of the meeting included presentation of proposals for new projects related to the decommissioning of nuclear facilities and the construction of the NDF. Their justification was subject to discussion and was approved by the contributors, who according to the Fund’s rules will take a decision for providing financial funds during the next assembly at the end of this year. Important new projects are Units 1-4 Independent Infrastructure Management, which is related to the physical separation of the infrastructure of the shutdown Units 1-4 from the operational Units of Kozloduy NPP and Rehabilitation of access road for Radiana site, which will provide funding for the rehabilitation of a 13 km section of the state road Kozloduy – Harlets, including the town’s ring road.
