SERAW signs a contract with international consultant for the projects, financed by KIDSF

25.01.2013

On 24 January 2013, Mr. Dilyan Petrov, the Executive Director of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste, signed a contract with international consultant of the Project Management Unit (PMU) for the decommissioning of Units 1 to 4 in Kozloduy. The document was signed at an official ceremony in the presence of Mrs. Evgenia Haritonova, Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism. The Consultant is a consortium between Empresarios Agrupados, Spain (leading company) and Nuvia, U.K. The implementation period for the contracted activities is 3 years.

“I believe that the signing of the contract today will contribute to the acceleration and successful completion of all planned projects in the process of the safe decommissioning of the small units”, said Mr Petrov.

The newly appointed consultant will assume the work of the previous contractor within three months.

The Consortium will advise SERAW on engineering activities, project management and the implementation of the tender procedures according to EBRD rules. The Consultant will also take responsibility for meeting all requirements for environmental care.

The consultant selection procedure was carried out according to the requirements of EBRD and KIDSF over almost a year. More than ten companies expressed interest initially, but only five were shortlisted.

The Consortium will also consult SERAW about the project for the construction of a National Disposal Facility for low and medium level radioactive waste.
