A report for the visit of the Commission’s delegation to Bulgaria was presented at a meeting of the Committee on Budgetary Affairs of the European Parliament (EP). The visit which took place from 28th to 30th of October 2013 was related to the decommissioning process of shutdown nuclear units in the context of the Grant funding of part of the activities by EU funds. Head of Mission of the European Parliament in Bulgaria was Ingeborg Gresle who presented a report with the final conclusions at the meeting. She gave her general positive assessment for the visit of the delegation to Bulgaria and shared some results from the meetings that were held there.
The member of the delegation that visited Bulgaria, Georgios Stavrakakis also joined the discussion. He stressed that the Bulgarian authorities have provided comprehensive answers to the additional questions submitted by the Commission. As per the Greek representative, there is complete clarity on the reporting, monitoring and evaluation related to the decommissioning of the facilities. Commissioner Paul Rubig assessed the report of Ingeborg Gresle as very well balanced and adequately reflecting the situation in Bulgaria where the process of decommissioning is obviously well managed. He noted also that the consultants within the Project Management Unit are fully integrated in the process.
