Welcome to the 16th edition of the Honey Festival
06.02.2025Honey Festival 2025 will be held on 21 and 22 February in the building of the Information Centre for Decommissioning of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste. The sixteenth edition of the event, organized by State Enterprise Radioactive Waste and supported by the beekeepers’ associations in the region, will traditionally provide an opportunity to exhibit and taste various types of honey and bee products from local producers and regular participants in the annual event. The exhibition also presents a variety of medicinal and cosmetic products – certified original craftsmanship – created on the basis of bee products. The beekeepers with collections of art objects will be joined by representatives of various crafts, interpreting the tradition with various art techniques.
The accompanying programme of this year’s event highlights the efforts of young people in the noble profession of beekeeping. In a presentation on the topic “Beekeeping in an Urban Environment”, Pavel Stoev, a 11th grade student at Uwekind International School in Sofia, will explain how the urban environment affects the development of bee colonies, honey production and how through urban beekeeping we can improve the environment in which we live. The German and history teacher Kostadin Sokolov will share the results of a scientific school experiment “Uwekind Bees” – the creation, development and sustainability of a school bee project. Marionela Velizarova, a student in eleventh grade from Hristo Botev Secondary Schoo, village of Galiche, will share her achievements from an international competition for young beekeepers in Dubai. A beekeeper specialist, active leader of public campaigns for the protection and conservation of bees – Yavor Kirilov will give a lecture on a topic relevant to beekeepers.
The organizers will also pay tribute to the past with specially collected materials about the history of the Kozloduy Beekeeping Society and the contribution of individual beekeepers from the last century. Visitors to the Festival will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the information.
For the first time this year, visitors can take part in a special game with prizes “Like the Bees”, the game rules will be handed out at the entrance to the event. During both days of the festival, the youngest visitors will have the opportunity to take part in two creative workshops for children: “Weaving – an ancient art” – classes on a training loom led by master Natasha Manchova from “Starata Rakla” and “The Magic of Turning” – classes on a training wood lathe led by Stanimir Nikolov from “Srachkomania”.
HONEY FESTIVAL 2025 will officially start at 11:30 a.m. on 21 February and will continue until 6:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, 22 February, the exhibition will be open to visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
