With the construction permit brought into force by the end of October 2014, the construction of the Size Reduction and Decontamination Workshop was started as Project 12a of the Project Management Unit responsible for the Decommissioning-Repository projects of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste. The construction is being financed by the International Fund Kozloduy.
The project includes the design, construction of a building, supply, installation, testing and commencing of machines for fragmentation of materials with contaminated surface as well as equipment for dry, water, chemical and electro-chemical decontamination of materials from the equipment dismantled from Kozloduy NPP Units 1-4. After being processed in the Workshop, the material will be packed and transferred to the facility for free release measurement. The purpose of the project is to construct a facility for safe, technologically and financially effective management of materials generated during the decommissioning process. The completion and the handover of the Workshop is planned for March 2017.
