REVIEW OF THE DECOMMISSIONING PROJECTS

30.03.2015

On 26th of March 2015, a scheduled meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) took place on the Units 1-4 Site in regard to the implementation of the works related to the decommissioning on the Nuclear Plant’s shutdown units.
Mr. Simon Murphy and Mr. Jean-Philippe Guisset participated in the review of the projects in Kozloduy as representatives of the European Commission as well as Mr. Valentin Scheider as representative of EBRD. State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW) was represented by its executive director, Mr. Dilyan Petrov and other managers involved in the implementation of the current projects. At the moment SERAW is implementing 21 projects through 31 contracts, in support of the decommissioning process, which are being funded and supervised by the European Union (EU). The work meetings for review of their progress are being held twice a year, before the Assembly of the Contributors.
As part of their visit programme in Kozloduy, the EU representatives made a technical tour during which they had the opportunity to see the progress of the dismantling works in Units 1-4 Turbine Hall and the decommissioning preparation works in Reactor Building. They visited also the site of the currently being constructed Workshop for size reduction ad decontamination of materials resulting from the decommissioning as well as the Workshop for processing of RAW generated from the operation of the NPP’s Units and Limestone Storage Facility Site for temporary storage of RAW.
At the end of the working meeting Mr. Murphy summarised the results and his impressions: “I think we has a very constructive meeting today. And as being the case in the last few visits, it was good to go to Turbine Hall and again see much more visible progress. I think that this is a good advertisement for the Decommissioning Programme in Kozloduy…”
In his comment for the meeting Jean-Philipp Guisset added one more point of view: “I was impressed by the way everybody, that we have met and who is working, is very much involved in his work to make the different projects go ahead and confront every issue or normal ongoing activities of the project management”
