SERAW’s specialists participated in a Trilateral Knowledge-exchange Seminar in Slovakia


Experts from Specialised Division Decommissioning of Units 1 to 4 of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste participated in a trilateral knowledge-exchange seminar which was held in Jaslovské Bohunice V1 NPP, Slovakia, hosted by JAVYS – decommissioning operator in charge of the decommissioning. The event took place on 13-14 March 2019. The seminar, organised under the auspices of Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) of the European Commission (EC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), is a continuation of the successfully established practice of sharing technical and practical experience in the field of decommissioning of nuclear facilities between the three Decommissioning Programmes – Kozloduy, Bohunice and Ignalina.
In the course of the seminar, three presentations were delivered on Bulgarian part. Momchil Kazakov – Chief Technologist of SD Decommissioning of Units 1 to 4, introduced the participants to the Overall Decommissioning Progress; Ivan Petrov – Head of RAW Treatment and Conditioning Department of the Plasma Melting Facility (PMF), spoke on the subject of PMF Commissioning; Borislav Iliev, Head of Size Reduction and Decontamination Workshop (SRDW), presented the key points in the SRDW operation. The presentations were met with great interest, followed by technical questions and a brief discussion, with particular attention being paid to the one-of-a-kind PMF.
As part of the seminar agenda, the specialists from SD Decommissioning of Units 1 to 4 had the opportunity to visit the Turbine Hall and Reactor Building of Jaslovské Bohunice V1 NPP where they were familiarized with the real progress of the decommissioning activities of their Slovak colleagues.
Upon closing of the forum and by complementing the closing speech of Mr. Kees Ketelaar, Associate Director – Head of the Bohunice International Decommissioning Support Fund (BIDSF), administered by the EBRD, Mr. Robert Kunde, Policy Officer from Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) of the EC expressed his gratitude and noted in his final speech the exceptional benefit of these seminars for all the parties involved in the process, highlighting that the next trilateral knowledge-exchange seminar is due to take place in Kozloduy in 2020.
