SERAW celebrated the International Danube Day

30.06.2015

Employees of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste joined the initiative to commemorate the International Day of the Danube River on 29 June 2015. The idea involved also family members and especially the children.
In the spirit of this year’s motto of the campaign – “Be active!” the participants volunteered with enthusiasm to build a small rock-garden in the Botev Park – along the riverbank near the town Kozloduy, where three Enterprise’s specialised divisions are based. So with their own hands they contributed to the aesthetics of the riverside park in the context of the international celebration of the river, which aims to increase the efforts for the preservation and care of the Danube Basin.
The program continued with a short voyage on board of the National Museum steamship “Radetzky”, during which the participants were acquainted with interesting information related to the river as well as facts about the remarkable biodiversity of the nearby island Ibisha – one of the wetlands protected under the Ramsar Convention in Bulgaria. Gathered on board of the ship, SERAW employees established a Photography club, since an internal photography competition that takes place for the eight consecutive years became very popular. One of the activities provided for the newly established club is to arrange photography expedition in the nature.
