The symbols of Palm Sunday (Tsvetnitsa) and Easter – captured in children’s applied arts

01.04.2015

31th of March was the date of the ceremony for awarding the winning artists in the eighth edition of the children’s competition for applied arts “Our green future”, which is an initiative of the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW). According to the rules of the competition the children invited are at the age from 5 to 10 years from Kozloduy Municipality. The works had to present elements of the Easter symbolism tied to environmental protection concerns and the activities of SERAW. In this year’s competition the children had an extra challenge – to include in their compositions also ideas inspired by another great spring festival – Palm Sunday. The additional rules proved to be no obstacle for small talents and 476 children in total participated in the initiative. They presented 120 group- and individual works which were arranged in an exhibition. As a proof of its growing popularity, the competition went beyond the region of Kolzoduy – this year artworks were surprisingly sent by children of the town of Roman.
All children’s applied arts were very talented and worth of winning, making it difficult for the three-member jury to decide and after a long discussion they announced three first places, four second places, six third places in different age categories as well as several special awards.
The first places were awarded to:
First Prize – Category 5-6 years (team) groups Ezhleta and Mecheta – from the Slanchitse kindergarten, town of Kozloduy;
First Prize – Category 7-8 years (individual) – Victoria Plamenova, from St. St. Cyril and Methodius Secondary School, town of Kozloduy;
First Prize – Category 8-9 years (individual) – Peter Kostov, Applied Arts Class in ODK,  town of Kozloduy.
