A new facility will support the dismantle process

26.02.2014

One more project of the Decommissioning and Repository Project Management Unit (D-R PMU) to SERAW was completed on the 18th of February 2014 – the supply of a telescopic handler with a 3D-platform, a work platform with winch, a 5-tons crane and a pallet moving tool .

The telescopic handler (telehandler) which can work with different types of attachments is required for the dismantling at higher elevations, areas of the premises that are difficult to access and sites with limited room and complex geometry. The equipment is completely hydraulic driven and it is controlled by a board computer from the cabin and remotely. In the open, the machine will work with a diesel engine and in enclosed areas – with a three-phase power supply.

The telehandler will be used during the processes of nuclear facilities decommissioning and safe management of radioactive waste.

The modern combined lifting machine will be implemented during the upcoming dismantling of tanks, pipes and other facilities which due to technological reasons are beyond the range of the cranes installed in the Units 1-4 Turbine Hall. Part of the equipment subject to dismantling is located behind obstacles or below elevation 0.0 which makes the implementation of the regular cranes and boom-lifts impossible.

The complete implementation of the project – funding and tendering in compliance with the EBRD rules, took only one year which demonstrates the positive result of the efficient Project Management Unit’s work with the European institutions, in comparison to the recent statistic according to which the completion of one project bound by complex procedures of international rang usually takes 2-3 years.
