On 25 September 2019, a group of four Iranian nuclear experts, accompanied by Mr. Jean-Philippe Guisset, Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Energy in the European Commission (EC), visited facilities of the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste at the Kozloduy site. The visit was arranged by the European Commission in the context of the JCPOA Annex III on civil nuclear cooperation and with the assistance of the Bulgarian institutions – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Energy.
The group visited the Turbine Hall of the shutdown Units 1 to 4 of Kozloduy NPP, Free Release Measurement Facility and Radiana site where the National Disposal Facility for Low and Intermediate-Level Waste is being built.
At the initiative of the EC, the Iranian experts have been invited to Bulgaria to familiarize themselves with the process of decommissioning. “Kozloduy Programme is a very good example in this regard – here we are witnessing really a successful nuclear decommissioning project. “We are very grateful to SERAW for hosting this visit. I would like to emphasize the high quality of the presentations by SERAW’s experts and express gratitude that they have taken the time for this initiative,” said Jean-Philippe Guisset in conclusion.
