On 24 and 25 April 2013 the SD PRRAW-Novi Han completed the implementation of a contract for accepting a gamma radiation device (GRD) from Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute (DAI) in Dobrich, which is no longer in use. DAI is one of the subjects of the SERAW special programme for accepting RAW from non-operating practices. The project was financed by the U.S. Department of Energy within the Global Threat Reduction Initiative. The task was implemented according to the specific instructions of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency for providing radiation safety and physical protection of the activities of dismantling, taking the device out of the building, loading it on the specialised vehicle of SERAW and its transportation. The transportation of the GRD from Dobrich to SD PRRAW-Novi Han was secured by escort cars of the regional police and civil protection structures.
