The civil construction of the Size Reduction and Decontamination Workshop (SRDW) for the processing of materials from the dismantling of KNPP Units 1-4 is close to completion. The project is under the management of the Decommissioning and Repository Projects Management Unit (D-R PMU) within the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW) and it is funded through the ‘Kozloduy’ International Fund.
After the completion of Factory Acceptance Tests, the supply of a part of the main equipment which will operate in the workshop began: dry transformers, individual dosimetry control units and overhead cranes. In the short time ahead there will be a delivery of main power switchboards and a system for technological radiation monitoring.
On the 4th and 5th of May 2016, the two 16-tons and one 12-tons overhead cranes supplied were inspected and installed in the workshop. After the installation of the cranes, the roof structure of the building will be closed and the work on the internal infrastructure and equipment installation will start.
According to schedule, the Size Reduction and Decontamination Workshop is to be handed over to SERAW in the first quarter of 2017.
