The operation to dismantle the generator of the first turbine was successfully completed on 17 December 2012 by the Special Decommissioning Devision of State Enterprise Radioactive Waste. The generator was transported to the Second Transport Corridor in the Turbine Hall. This was the end of activities to dismantle the first steam turbine of Unit 1 of Kozloduy NPP, which was shut down at the end of 2002.
The operation was extremely complex, as the equipment weighs 170 tons. It required the synchronised deployment of two cranes with a lifting capacity 100 tons each.
Since the beginning of 2012, SERAW has dismantled equipment from the non-radioactive area of Units 1 and 2 to a total weight of 2470 tons.
