The equipment dismantling from KNNP’s Units I-IV is a response to Bulgaria’s commitment for their decommissioning. In November 1999 the Bulgarian government and the European commission signed a Memorandum by which Bulgaria commits to shut down and decommission the small units of the nuclear power plant. As a result, the four units were shut down within the agreed terms – I and II in the end of 2002 and III and IV in the end of 2006.

SE RAW is entrusted with the commitment to manage the units of the Bulgarian nuclear power plant as RAW facilities and their subsequent decommissioning. For this purpose a new specialized division was formed within the structure of the enterprise – Specialized Division Decommissioning-Kozloduy. Its activities are regulated through licenses issued by the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency.
