On 26 and 27 February 2014, the representatives of the European Commission (EC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) made a regular scheduled visit to Kozloduy.
The experts are in charge of monitoring the dismantling activities of the shutdown nuclear power units and related projects financed by the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) in support of the decommissioning.
Two representatives of the European Commission – Simon Murphy, Project Manager in Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Waste and Decommissioning and Marcel Rehak – Project Manager in Nuclear Energy, Waste Management and Transport, as well as Valentin Šeider – KIDSF Operation Leader, Nuclear Safety Department at EBRD and his colleague Ketelaar Kees – Senior Manager at Bohunice International Decommissioning Support Fund (BIDSF) met with the experts from the International Projects Division of SE Radioactive Waste and their colleagues from an international consortium with whom they are working together within the Project Management Unit. During the meeting, the status and pace of implementation of ongoing projects were discussed. In the course of the business discussions the new priorities were identified that will be presented at the first annual session of the Assembly of Contributors where the progress is reviewed and funding of subsequent projects is approved.
Under the agenda, the European representatives visited the Turbine Hall of Units 1-4 to get first hand impressions of the progress of dismantling activities. After the visit, Mr. Simon Murphy said: “It is very good to see that since September, when I was last here, there is an actual and visible progress in the dismantling activities. SE RAW has focused its efforts in the right direction. Of course, there will always be new challenges – in the best sense, because they generate seeking and finding of solutions.”
